If you look at this show through a narrative lens, the pieces don’t fit
It tells the story of three very different families who compete to buy the same 1920s Spanish-style mansion that they believe will solve all their problems. The exterior of the house is similar to the same house that Mitchell and Cam lived in on Modern Family.
Everything comes together in the end
There were a lot of red herrings. They dive so deep into each character’s backstory that the overall story doesn’t feel strong enough to stay on track.
It would definitely be stronger without the ensemble cast
There are a lot of familiar faces, so I can see why they did it. It had some weak characters, both in the writing and in the acting.
The best part by far
Some of the others seemed to struggle with the balance of comedy and drama. I think it’s time for Netflix to give Linda Cardellini her own show.
