James Patterson’s series of novels about the complex and brilliant detective Alex Cross
Hodges is the third actor to portray Cross, following in the footsteps of Morgan Freeman, who first portrayed him on screen in the 1997 film Kiss the Girls and again in the 2001 film sequel Along Came a Spider; and Tyler Perry as the title character in the 2012 film Alex Cross, which bombed at the box office and led Lionsgate to scrap its previously planned sequel Double Cross.
But the series waxes and wanes with a lengthy 8-episode run that doesn’t justify its runtime
Aldis Hodges is electric as the titular cop Alex Cross, based on James Patterson’s best-selling book series.
If only creator Ben Watkins had written the script more tightly and focused on the investigative elements rather than the main character’s personal struggles, this could have been a groundbreaking series
Ryan Eggold, Samantha Walks, and Isaiah Mustafa shine in their supporting roles, but Eloise Mumford and Karen Robinson command attention and even manage to steal the spotlight from Aldis Hodge’s excellent lead.
