Two Harkonnen sisters battle forces that threaten the future of humanity and have founded the legendary sect that would become known as the Bene Gesserit. Whether they’re exploring the stars, escaping dystopias, or making the world a better place, these women are the epitome of science fiction. This series draws on elements from the Great Schools of Dune trilogy by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson. A prequel to the original Dune, it tells the story of how the Brotherhood of Rossak evolved into the Bene Gesserit. The incident with Valya Harkonnen using the voice is taken from an incident called “Mentats from Dune.” The three books weave together the development of the Brotherhood, the Mentats, the Navigators, and the Suk Doctors. It’s referenced in the crazy cartoon cast from AniMat: The New Normal (2020). I don’t mean to criticize just the first episode of a TV series, but it was just average overall. The acting was below average, except for some well-known actors like Mark Strong, Emily Watson, Olivia Williams, and maybe Travis Fimmel. The rest of the cast looked like they just came out of a film academy or something. The story was very light and the dialogue was not worthy of a dune. I like slow dramas that take forever to build because I know the payoff is worth the wait. But it wasn’t just slow, a lot of things happened, but it was just boring, I don’t know how else to put it. The soundtrack that wandered through the films was a bit copied here, with familiar sounds popping up here and there, but the timing just wasn’t right. It’s like I heard a lot of music here that had no effect. I remember how much time we spend in films with people talking and then boom, Hans Zimmer does his magic and I’m so excited. But I know he had no role in creating the sounds here and I don’t even need to check. I’m not sure if Denis Villeneuve was involved in this production, I hope not. My question is: did he even enjoy making it? Would a regular TV series like this after two epic movies have any effect on the long-awaited third movie? The reason I wonder is because The Penguin was so good that it made me appreciate The Batman even more than I did after seeing it, and I can’t wait to see the second movie. So, what impact will Dune: Prophecy have on the third movie, if any? Something to think about.
