An excellent drama directed by Hu Guan of China, it’s no wonder it took top honors in the parallel Un Certain Regard section at Cannes this year. The story is about a guy who returns home after a stint in prison and takes it upon himself to rid the town of stray dogs in the run-up to the Olympics.
The drama is set in the far reaches of the Gobi Desert in northwest China
However, he unexpectedly forms a bond with a black dog and the two embark on a new adventure. The film’s canine star received the canine award earlier today when he was presented with the Palm Dog Grand Jury Award!
