With a budget of €429 million, The Count of Monte Cristo is the most expensive French film of 2024
Chronology
After escaping from an island prison where he spent 14 years wrongly accused of treason, Edmond Dantès returns as the Count of Monte Cristo to seek revenge on those who betrayed him. When Albert watches Hydee sing and play the guitar, it’s very obvious that he doesn’t even touch the strings half as often.
And boy, was I not disappointed!
He appeared in The Big Week: Episode 1.13 (2024). I’m not usually a fan of action movies, but the amazing cast and the choice of a classic of French literature convinced me to go see THE COUNT OF MONTE CRISTO.
Despite its three-hour length, the film never gets boring
When it’s not keeping us in suspense, it shows us breathtaking scenes from 19th century France and makes us wonder how they did it for just 40 million euros! I suppose the beautiful cinematography and the skillful editing played a role in making this film stand out from the much more expensive Hollywood productions.
Thank you Alexandre, thank you Matthieu 🙂
Of course, Alexandre Dumas deserves a lot of credit for coming up with such a poignant story, but of course adapting it to the screen was no easy task, and it was wonderfully done here. I sincerely hope this film does well outside of France, because more people deserve to see it.
