The Jackal is seen driving a white Alfa Romeo Spider
Chronology
The Jackal is an elusive assassin who makes a living by striking for the highest price. He soon finds himself in the person of a tough British intelligence officer who tracks him down on a thrilling cat-and-mouse chase across Europe. In the film The Day of the Jackal (1973), the Jackal also drives a white Alfa Romeo, although it’s an older model.
TLDR: Redmayne pulls it off
Graham Norton Link and more: Denzel Washington/Paul Mescal/Saoirse Ronan/Eddie Redmayne/Blossoms (2024). Lynch is a bad cast. Unfortunately, the leading roles aren’t on the same level, which detracts from the otherwise spectacular and high quality of the production.
Overall, the story is a viable adaptation
No offense to Lynch, that’s just a high bar set by Redmayne. A more experienced actor could provide a more believable double/antagonist needed to challenge the Jackal. The character development works, although some things are left open in the main character’s stories, but that can be left to be desired.
The deception barometer is always on in the background
The locations, the varied interactions, and Redmayne’s speaking of languages and changing characters really add a special layer to the story. I’m looking forward to seeing how Se01 ends and how the quality is maintained or improved in Se02. Hopefully Lynch will tone down the tone to be less forced and give a softer performance to try to cope with Redmayne.
